This drawing shows the utter chaos of Market Street on a rainy market day. It is the women and children who usually carry goods to market and it always seemed to rain most heavily on market day. Young boys pushing two-wheeled carts squelch barefoot up the hill. With all that mud I couldn’t help but conjure up images of trench life in the First World War!
